Years ago, I had carefully compiled a truly remarkable library on calligraphy and lettering. I practiced often and learned so much. But then, we lost those books in a move. I left off practicing and tried not to think too often about that loss. And that’s why I’m so thrilled with this book. It is truly like a library in itself. It covers a full range of lettering, over time and styles.

The book is written in an easy to follow style, and the many illustrations of particular letter types is very helpful as well. With it, I have been able to restart this wonderful hobby, and it is helping in my computer design work as well. The final chapter of “Handy Hints” is worth the price alone. Wonderful book.

Tomoko Fuse is one of the greatest origami artists who have ever lived. Accordingly, she has created several books regarded as THE ultimate origami books. Will this book join that exalted level? I don’t know, but it sure seems wonderful to me. It is kind of the be-all, end-all of origami boxes. Lovely photos throughout, with very helpful diagrams and straightforward instructions.

Some use a single sheet of origami paper, while others use several sheets (aka, “modular” origami) to create more complex boxes, drawers, and so forth. I’m unsure if there are other styles of boxes to make? In any case, there is enough here for origami lovers to make practical and lovely boxes for themselves, for gifts, and for home or office decor. A great gift for origami hobbyists of all levels of expertise.
