This is a beautiful book about a mulberry tree, and how it helps shape a young girl’s family life. The focus throughout is on the mulberry tree, itself, and largely involves the berrys, which the birds try to eat, and the family makes into jam, and that helps sweeten their dishes — and their lives in the neighborhood. There is a bit about death, absence, and rebirth, too. The illustrations are lovely and details, with high-quality paper, printing, and binding. The text is remarkably well-written, focusing on the story, yet suggestive of much more, including the love that the family has and shares, just like the berries of their mulberry tree.
