My daughter has been wanting to learn how to draw better. I have heard before that everyone has 10,000 bad drawings in them, so it’s best to get them drawn while we’re young. So I was happy to find this engaging and colorful activity-slash-guide book! It is like a complete art and illustration course in a friendly disguise. It is similar to actual instruction, yet better in that my daughter can proceed at her own pace, without judgement (I already know I have a long way to go, thanks). Plus, the book is more complete and better organized than my high school art teacher’s course. And friendlier, too, as the explanations remove any learning curve by making everything easy to understand, the first time.

The activities are both helpful and inspired, like the “measurement” activity that I hadn’t gone through in school — so basic yet essential. Practical and super helpful. It’s a learn-by-doing approach that really helps develop focus and fine motor skills for drawing, hand control, and muscle memory — while focusing on specific skills and concepts, all geared toward beginners. The book is fun and lovely, with colorful layouts, plentiful and helpful illustrations, along with brief-yet-compelling descriptions of what to do and how to do it. It’s a great way to learn how to draw better!
