Check out these great new titles from Ulysses Press!

As you probably know, Schrute Farms is the number one beet-related agritourism destination in Northeastern Pennsylvania. They offer the finest accommodations for the casual traveler and/or radish enthusiast. The majestic Schrute Farms is also a fictional location within the series, “The Office.” Yet the book’s humorously didactic introductions are written with a straight face. Yet the recipes are no joke. Okay, there are a lot of beet recipes in here, like the Borscht, which is fantastic. There is also a full range of recipes that fit the vibe, like roast goose(!). We splurged on it and, honestly, found it to be a revelation. So good! I will follow the recipe’s “suggestion” and serve that for holiday feasts from now on! This is a delightful little cookbook, for many reasons, and a must-have for any devoted fans of “The Office!” Especially if they like beets!

I was an avid calligrapher — before I had kids. Now that my children are older, I’m happily returning to my favorite hobby. Yet, the art supplies available now are so different than the old-school tools I learned within my college years. I wondered what new possibilities were now available, yet I also wanted to, you know, actually enjoy my hobby, and not be burdened with mandates and “Thou shalt’s.” This is the perfect book for me.

The book itself is so pretty, gorgeous really, with multiple colorful photos on every page, which help to feature new techniques now available with all the new tools we have available. Engaging and super helpful writing helps me to have fun and not stress out. Plus it offers guides to contemporary typefaces that extend well beyond the fonts I was initially trained to do. With this book as my guide, I’m back in the swing of things and recently designed a logo for my daughter’s new patisserie, using the colorful ombre lettering technique shown in the book!

There is a full load of groovy recipes in this little groovy cookbook, designed for groovy people living groovy lives. On or off the road, the recipes are entirely legit, with super healthy ingredients, and a vegetarian-ish orientation, without being strictly so. The photos are lavish, and beautiful, and the eye-opening recipes offer new possibilities that I wouldn’t have otherwise considered — or thought possible — including several that I’m sure I’ve never seen online.

For example, one simple example is the “Dutch Baby for One.” Easy peasy, no leftovers, and deliciously fluffy, although I’d only thought of this as a family-sized dish. For those who’ve never had it, it’s a cross between a pancake and a souffle, baked in the oven. A delicious book, filled with delicious and healthy recipes (often for one or two people), that’s a great idea for anyone — living on or off the road.
