Birds from Bricks offers straightforward steps in building all sorts of birds from around the world. My son is really enjoying it and has built several already. The Albatross, penguins, and canary are my favorites so far. He says there are clever techniques for creating curves for the birds’ bodies, or the splayed feathers on the canary.

They’re remarkable and he’s having a blast. I’ve seen him and his siblings googling the birds to learn more about them, too, so that’s a plus. The book is very well-made and designed, with clear layouts, color-coded chapters (for different areas around the world), deluxe softcover binding, easy-to-follow illustrated steps, and large photos throughout — including of the actual birds themselves. Next he wants to try to make the bald eagle on his own.
