I’ve loved sharing Little Engine that Could stories with my kids, and I enjoyed them when I was a child myself! This engaging children’s picture book offers a fun Easter story for youngsters, where the Little Engine That Could and her colorful friends go on a treasure hunt with her friends. Will they ever find the chocolate eggs? “I think we can!” This super cute board book features very charming illustrations on a sturdy board book, with a glossy finish on each delightful two-page spread. A wonderful book that teaches a solid lesson in a memorable way.

This is a beautifully illustrated board book that recounts the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, which (as the book points out) is why we celebrate Easter. The illustrations are designed in a 2-D vintage style, with stamping and other retro illustration techniques that are so cute, I thought even the “angry” soldiers look darling. The text is gently straightforward, a little longer than you’d expect from a board book, explaining the basics quite clearly, without a lot of elaboration, aside from the impact of the resurrection and what it means for us — including celebrating Easter. To be clear, the text and illustrations do not show the crucifixion, just Jesus carrying the cross and, then, laying in the tomb. It’s a lovely book with an important story to tell, on many levels.

This fun book shows various crayons preparing to decorate eggs for Easter, but the enthusiastic Purple Crayon, wearing bunny ears, is annoyed that Red, Orange, Yellow, White, little Blue, and Esteban (f.k.a. Green) are decorating shapes instead of eggs. Why are they decorating a circle, a triangle, a star, or even a rhombus? This clever little book is well-told and beautifully printed and bound. It’s a fun way to prepare for Easter decorating while learning colors and shapes — including (at last!) an egg!

This is a delightful lift-the-flap board book, featuring the Very Hungry Caterpillar as he — and the reader — search behind flaps of farmhouse animals and objects, looking for Easter eggs. Familiar farm animals are featured, as rhyming text prompts the reader with questions, like “In the farmhouse kitchen, there’s a tasty breakfast spread. Can you find an Easter egg hidden near the bread?” The colorful illustrations are done in Carle’s delightful painted cut-out style, with each flap revealing something else, like a rooster or ladybug, along with a brief text description on the flap itself, like “Yippee!” when he/you find the hidden egg. It brings the fun of an Easter egg hunt to life, anytime, anywhere!
