This unusual and lovingly made picture book beautifully expresses longing and sadness yet, most powerfully, hope — all while considering, in a clear metaphor, the lifespans we all live. The moving book describes the life of a little star who fell from the heavens to Earth — as a baby human — who is referred to (only) as “it.”
The muted palette echoes the abstract tale, told entirely in summary form, to maintain an emotional distance, enhance the metaphor, and focus on the story’s poignance. Yet, the book ends on a note of hope and comfort. For children dealing with the circle of life, I believe this book will be a loving source of comfort and perspective.
