Scarves can be so pretty and fashionable wrapped around the neck, but there’s so much more you can do with them. Since they are typically made in really gorgeous colors and patterns, they offer the chance to use them in much more varied ways. Craft Challenge: Dozens of Ways to Repurpose Scarves written by Nathalie Mornu and published by Lark Crafts, has excellent suggestions from many talented designers (Click here to read more about the contributors). In addition to the complete instructions and how-to, another nice touch was the charming watercolor diagrams that show how to create the projects.

If you have vintage hand-me-down scarves or just like to look for them at the second hand shops, Dozens of Ways to Repurpose Scarves has lots of lovely ways to transform them into even more wearable items. There are many projects where they make gorgeous, flowing clothes items out of scarves, like dresses, tops, shorts and skirts, all of which offer an ideal way to show off the fabrics and patterns of the scarves.

In addition to clothing, there are lots of way to change scarves into usable household items as well. Jewelry and purses made of silky scarves are not only unique, but also a pleasure to wear. I loved the fun suggestions in the book for using scarves to decorate your home with, from super simple window coverings to an intricately pieced mosaic lap quilt. Keep an eye out for commonly found map, souvenir or commemorative scarves that would be perfect to use in the projects. If you love scarves, check out Craft Challenge: Dozens of Ways to Repurpose Scarves and you’ll see how to transform these beautiful accessories into something new!
