(Free pillow projects from Pretty Little Pillows at end of post)

Pretty Little Pillows is published by Lark Books and is filled with delightful ideas for making pillows to add unique touches around your home. Pillows are one of the most ideal sewing and crafting projects, as they are fast and simple to make. They are also much more forgiving than say, a dress pattern, so if you mess anything up, it is very likely to go entirely unnoticed!

A group of creative designers contributed twenty nine pillow projects for Pretty Little Pillows. I enjoyed seeing each of their interpretations of how to make a great pillow. You can see their interesting bios at the end of the book and go to their websites to learn more about them.

Pretty Little Pillows starts with basic information about tools to use and then goes on to talk about possible stuffing materials. I loved the idea of using herbs and flowers with the stuffing to create a soothing aromatherapy experience. In terms of the fabrics, pillows provide the perfect opportunity to use up your scraps. And the possibilities for embellishments are endless! There are many helpful tips, like the reminder to clip your corners to ensure they are crisp when the pillow is turned right side out.

The projects in Pretty Little Pillows are widely varying in their styles, from modern to elegant looks and everything in between. A beautiful pillow made of felt with colorful butterflies would make a stunning showpiece on your couch. There are quilt block creations, travel pillows, and even a pillow to hide the remote in! Pillows of all kinds of shapes are shown throughout the books, from an exotic polynesian flower, to “chocolate truffles” and even ones crafted to look like mini houses.

Pretty Little Pillows has lots of great ideas for making handmade pillows which will give a room more style or easily change up it’s look.

When I’m not spending my time working on craft books, I’m busy making them. I also blog over at Digs&Bean: stop by when you have a minute. Quilting and sewing are my current favorite mediums. Pair that with a healthy love of fusible web, and you get lots (and lots) of applique, like in this project.
