My kids giggle while looking through this delightful, almost-wordless picture book. Nope is a wonderfully drawn and painted book showing a little bird’s escalating fears about leaving the nest, located very high up in a tree, for its first flight. The mother bird loves the baby, but it’s time to fly. In the end, the bird sees the world as what it is, and learns about its own abilities, too. As we learn more about the world we live in, we learn about our own possibilities, too, and I think this clever picture book shows that lesson as well as any I’ve ever seen.
