Max and Marla is so darling! Max and his non-speaking friend, Marla the owl, have decided to become Winter Olympians. I love how Max cares for Marla, for example, carrying the little owl to bed when she falls asleep while waxing their sled’s runners.
I like how the story shows the importance of working to make things go well, rather than merely hoping they will, and how caring for others can make any effort a victory in its own right. The book also has some of the cutest illustrations I have ever seen. I also loved all the blues throughout the book. This is a lovely and charming book for children of all ages.
