I have been trying to review the three-book series, Survive! Inside the Human Body, for weeks, but my 11-year-old daughter took the books as soon as we got them and has been reading them over and over. She would share numerous facts and concepts about how and why our bodies work the way they do (she hadn’t shown much interest in biology before). Finally, I got to read through them and they are delightfully fun, with a lot of “Our bodies do WHAT?” grossness thrown in.
The books themselves are very well-made, with embossed matte covers, and rich full-color, Asian-style comic-book layouts throughout. The outrageously fun stories tell about two kids and two scientists who go on various journeys through the human body, with the help of the scientists’ miniaturizing submarine.
This series is really great (and educational) fun for children, even though the often (humorously) panicked characters are a little silly. Regardless, brilliant concept, well executed, highly educational fun.
