One Minute Cake

One Minute Cake

Have a birthday cake ready in one minute — I love this idea! This complete birthday kit from Perpetual Kid includes the cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, candle, spoon, balloon and a noise maker! This would be great for gifts for adults or children. They come in two varieties: yellow cake with white frosting or chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.

And they would make a fun addition to a gift basket for birthdays or any occasion. They suggest keeping a few in your office drawer just in case you forget a coworkers birthday! Just mix it with water, no eggs or oil needed, then bake in microwave for one minute, frost it and it’s ready! The cake measures 4.5″ diameter, enough for a few people to each have a tiny piece!

Cupcake Hat

Cupcake Hat

With the weather getting chillier, you might want to get a cute cupcake hat to wear to keep you warm. This one from Perpetual Kid actually is for adults, but would look really cute on kids, too! I wish they had one for babies:)

From Perpetual Kid:
“We can keep our heads warm and show our love of cupcakes all at once!?! Where do we sign up? Well, we now have Cupcake Beanies with playful sprinkles, icing and a cherry on top! Keep your head warm, styling, and deliciously warm!

We like snowball fights just as much as everyone else on a cold snowy day, but frozen hair really sucks. So now we can jump and play in style next time we get barraged by snow!

100% acrylic. Knit construction, cherry pom-pom, and NEFF label. One size fits most adults.”

Ceiling Solar System

Ceiling Solar System

This ceiling solar system kit from The Land of Nod is the perfect piece of room décor if your kids love all things “space”. It features nine colorful, hanging glow-in-the-dark planets. (Fun to look at while going to sleep!) The kit includes nine planets, 25′ of string, 200 glow-in-the-dark adhesive stars and a planetary guide booklet. For a whole space room look, Out of this World Space Wallies Big Mural would really complete the space look!

Giant Gummy Bear

Giant Gummy Bear

Usually cute things are little, but this one is giant! These giant gummy bears come in several flavors: green apple, lemon, cherry, blue raspberry, grape, pineapple, cola, pink lemonade and orange.

“When we think of gummy bears, we think of a small bag full of nickel sized gelatin-sugar globs. Now, imagine 90 gummy bears melted together to create a ½ pound bear on a stick. Why on a stick? Because things can get pretty sticky and believe us when we say that the stick is really convenient! Plus, everything tastes better on a stick!!! Our gummy bears look, feel, and taste exactly like their smaller cousins! They have a long, one year shelf life so you can order them today and send out for holidays throughout the year!”

Kimochi Cloud

Kimochi Cloud

I think that your emotions can teach you a lot about yourself, so I was really excited to see Kimochis, which are adorable in and of themselves, plus, they also teach children to express themselves in positive ways. You can see all of Kimochis in their store, where they have an line-up of 13″ and 6″ sizes of the toys.

I got the Cloud stuffed toy, which is made of soft and cuddly material. He can be a bit moody though, which is easily shown by turning his head from his bright and happy face to his gloomy face. Cloud has a pouch on his tummy where his emotions (Kimochi in Japanese) live, and they are so cute with their little hands and feet and their name on their back (Happy, Mad, Sad). In addition to helping my children express their emotions (sometimes I just ask them to point to which one they feel like, if they are upset), my kids love to make up stories with them, too.

Cloud also comes with a “Kimochi Feel Guide”, which is a small, soft cover book filled with darling illustrations and constructive play ideas using the toys. The book tells us, “When kids are comfortable talking about their feelings, they build self-esteem, character and confidence!” I really appreciated this concept, since it will help children throughout their lives in their social dealings, as well as handling their own personal issues. Cloud offers such a fun way to learn to work things out when an issue arises, rather than choosing to be overwhelmed by emotion (a much less beneficial coping technique.)

A companion book for the Cloud Kimochi toy is Cloud’s Best Worst Day Ever, written by Amy Novesky, is filled with lovely and whimsical watercolors by award-winning artist Hanako Wakiyama and includes tips from communication expert Ellen Pritchard Dodge in the forward.

Cloud’s Best Worst Day Ever tells the delightful story of Cloud and how, when he doesn’t control his emotions, things don’t go very well for him. My children have at times been overly emotional when they were tired, just like Cloud: “Later, when Cloud awoke from his nap…he remembered he had said a big mean thing that wasn’t true.”

Cloud figures out that when he is upset in the moment, his actions will result in consequences that he might not like very much. His friends hide from him and avoid him, but he considers his options and figures out how to make amends with an appropriate apology. It’s not fun to have to go back and have to fix things, its definitely better to prevent them in the first place by learning how to express yourself more effectively and considerately. And Cloud’s Best Worst Day Ever gives us an opportunity to teach our children this very important life lesson: that they have the ability within themselves to choose to turn their worst day into their best day ever.
